To catch you up.........

So, Adam and I found out we were expecting on December 20. I took two important tests that day. It was a Thursday and I had just returned from Hampton where I took my licensure exam. I passed (thank goodness). We figured that since I was doing well on taking tests that day, I might as well take another.....we were very excited with the results.

We did our best to keep the news on the down low, at least until after the first doctor's appointment. Adam went with me to the appointment. He was very brave. Here is the first picture of the little one. Baby "C" was moving all around during the ultra sound. It was really crazy. At this point, the baby was 9 weeks and 5 days old. According to www.babycenter.com, "Though he's barely the size of a kumquat — a little over an inch or so long, crown to bottom — and weighs less than a quarter of an ounce, your baby has now completed the most critical portion of his development. This is the beginning of the so-called fetal period, a time when the tissues and organs in his body rapidly grow and mature.

He's swallowing fluid and kicking up a storm. Vital organs — including his kidneys, intestines, brain, and liver are in place and starting to function, though they'll continue to develop throughout your pregnancy". It was an amazing experience.

We decided to begin to document the growing belly. The picture below was taken the week I had to buy new clothes. Although I was still able to squeeze into my pants, it was certainly not a fun task. Not to mention that fact that I had to unbutton my pants every time I ate anything. My trip to "It's Hip to be Round" came the day I had an embarrassing incident at work. I had just eaten lunch at my desk and unbuttoned my pants, just like any other day recently. Only this time, I forgot to button them before I headed down the hall to the fax machine. I was completely oblivious until a co-worker was kind enough to point out my little wardrobe malfunction. Luckily, it was a friend who knew about "my condition" and didn't think I was just being lazy! In the picture to the right I was 12 weeks pregnant. According to www.babycenter.com, here is what was going on that week:

"The most dramatic development this week: Reflexes. Your baby's fingers will soon begin to open and close, his toes will curl, his eye muscles will clench, and his mouth will make sucking movements. In fact, if you prod your abdomen, your baby will squirm in response, although you won't be able to feel it. His face looks unquestionably human: His eyes have moved from the sides to the front of his head, and his ears are right where they should be. From crown to rump, your baby-to-be is just over two inches long (about the size of a lime) and weighs half an ounce". Just to be fair, I would like to point out that even though the baby was only "about the size of a lime", my uterus was reportedly the size of a large grapefruit. People at work keep making fun of me when I try to show them my "baby bump". They laugh and say, "there is nothing there". But I can assure you, from my point of view, things are looking a lot different. And I don't think my entire wardrobe shrunk! I realize I am a bit sensitive on the issue. I am looking forward to looking pregnant, not just looking like I ate a big lunch!

Well, that should get everyone up to speed for now. I hope you enjoyed the first post. I assure you future posts will not be this long, so please come back!
